The Retro Las Vegas Pairs deck is a custom Pairs deck illustrated by Andrew Kolb, and available now at DriveThruCards. Decks from DriveThruCards are print-on-demand, and don't come with rulebooks or boxes. However, you can add a plastic box for just another dollar, and their card quality is superb, casino-grade playing card stock. We've made the deck available with two "Lucky Mansion Hotel and Casino" backs: one Black, and one White.
Pairs is a "New Classic Pub Game" featuring an unusual deck of cards. The deck has only the numbers 1 through 10, with a different number of each card: 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, and so on, up to 10x10.
In the basic game, points are bad, and you score points by getting a pair. So, if you have a 10, there are 9 other cards that could pair it up, and you'll get 10 penalty points if you do. Players take turns deciding whether to take another card, or fold, trying to avoid scoring points. When you fold, you have to take points, but only the smallest card in play.
The Retro Las Vegas deck was designed for the new casino game Carousel. This game is still in development, but the beta rules are available at Workshop 55. It's a traditional table-style game where players bet against each other, trying to guess how many hands will survive the next round of dealilng. But of course like all Pairs decks, this one is compatible with all the games and variations!
Andrew Kolb's amazing illustration style is perfect for this 1960's style Pairs deck, with all the elements of classic Las Vegas. Here's a preview of all ten cards:
Pairs was designed by veteran game inventors James Ernest and Paul Peterson, and released in October 2014. There are many different art decks to choose from, but they all work for the same game (and many variant games!)
